Five Healthy Ways To Use Coconut Oil
There are always new products being thrust at us with the claims of life-changing health benefits. Over the last couple of years many people have been coming round to using different oils in a variety of ways in their kitchen. Coconut oil is one of them, but there's no hocus pocus here; just proven, healthy fats that can be used for a variety of purposes in your day-to-day eating habits.
It is composed of a unique variety of short and medium-chain fatty acids that can offer a healthier option to the likes of butter. Also, for the vegetarians and vegans among us, it is a great option.
As with all fats (and every area of your diet), variety and moderation are key, but below are a few ways to best use coconut oil.
Cook with it!
Coconut oil is one of the best oils for cooking because its saturated fats make it very resistant to high temperatures. Try it with stir fries, eggs or many other things for added texture and taste.
Put it in your coffee
Another increasingly popular choice is skipping a trip to the coffee house and using coconut oil as a creamer for your coffee. Not only does it add a hit of goodness, you'll enjoy the taste, replace your dairy and it'll send your energy levels through the roof! There are too many advocates of this to mention, but if you need a pick-me-up on a morning to wake up, boost your metabolism, or help you hit that workout then this will do the trick.
Add an extra flavour to homemade condiments
Shop-bought condiments can be full of all sorts of things that you don't necessarily want to ingest. A good way to get around this is to make them yourself instead of playing roulette with the ingredients list. You can use it instead of vegetable oil in homemade mayo for example.
Coconut oil for breakfast
We've told you about putting the stuff in your coffee, but another way to get that hit at breakfast is to spread it on your toast. It might seem alien at first, but replace butter with coconut oil and you'll see how good it can be. We've been known to add on a dash of cinnamon, too, for a real morning treat.
Get some added energy and healthy fats into your diet really easily by sticking a spoonful in your smoothie. Of course, smoothies are ridiculously versatile and you can cover all of your bases with them. Greens, fruits, fibre and coconut oil in a hundred different combinations can leave you fulfilled and packed full of goodness without even having to turn on the hob. Instant satisfaction!
There are literally hundreds of uses for coconut oil, not just in the kitchen but in almost every facet of your life. The ones above are a good starting point for you, and from there you can explore with your own options and get more adventurous.
